SMOKY MOUNTAIN MUSIC FESTIVAL

Our Story

The Smoky Mountain Music Festival continues its dedication to excellence by offering young musicians an opportunity to demonstrate their talents before prestigious adjudicators in a beautiful setting.  Now in its thirty-ninth year, SMMF has drawn bands, orchestras, choruses, and winter-guards from twenty-nine states and Canada.

SMMF attributes much of its success and popularity to the following:

• ADJUDICATORS – Adjudicators for the festival are among the best-known and highly respected in the band, orchestral, and choral fields.  Internationally recognized, these men and women not only judge the musical groups but also offer insightful critiques for improvement of these organizations.
• LOCATION – Set in the beautiful Smoky Mountains in the center of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, this festival affords visitors multiple opportunities for entertainment and activity in this scenic mountain venue.  Smoky Mountain Music Festival is fortunate to partner with the city of Gatlinburg in this annual event.  Gatlinburg officials make available access to the Convention Center and near-by motels, parade arrangements, and security.  Endorsement by Gatlinburg is a key element in our success.
• FESTIVAL ASSISTANTS – Critical to the festival’s success are the festival assistants.  Their experience adds to the efficient operation of the festival.  Many former University of Tennessee students continue to return each spring to assist with festival activities.
